Jesus Christ in Ancient Vedas

Many people in India say that Jesus Christ was a great saint who founded the Christian Religion. The Bible tells us that all mankind have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom.3:23) and that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was sent by God to this world, to become the propitiation for our sins.

Who is this Jesus? Apart from the Bible, Let us know about Him from the ancient Hindu Scriptures.

All mankind have sinned, having transgressed the law of God. Therefore, they devise various ways and means as to how to escape the wrath of God and live. In our own country, the Brahmins perform sacrifices, and the non-Brahmins offer animals in sacrifice.

All true seekers of God will desire for truth and welcome the truth that leads them to the Living, Loving, Almighty and the All-powerful Creator. It is not just about religions, sects or faiths, nor is it a mere collection of some facts. But it is the driving force behind all sincere seekers to the ultimate hope of experiencing God.

It is in this pursuit that men for ages have been looking towards nature, ancestors, heroes and even to unknown spirits for help. In the course of time, they had started worshiping them as well. It is this longing that resulted in the birth of Vedas.

Veda means sacred spiritual knowledge. This knowledge was obtained through dedication, devotion and meditation by several hundred Sages for years. It was orally handed down from generation to generation and compiled to book form over a period of long time.

About 2000 years ago, Hinduism was quite different from what it is today. It was not an organized religion at that time and the modern deities had not appeared.

Ancient visionary sages thirsted for the truth. They used to recite the following hymn. (Bryhad Aranyak Upanishad 1.3.28).

Asatoma Sadhgamaya ......(Lead us from False to the Truth).
Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya....(Lead us from Darkness to Light).
Mrutyoma amritamgamaya......(Lead us from Death to Life).

Have you ever thought, to whom did they recite this prayer.....

During the Vedic and Upanishads time, they were nature worshipers. Most of the modern deities hadn't appeared.

Did the creator of the Cosmos ever answered that craving for the truth....? Yes, Indeed.

Do you know that after centuries later, a great person in history came to answer and fulfill this hymn...

He said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I am the light of the world. Follow me"..

Dear friend, do you know that this great person's name is mentioned at many places in the Vedas and Upanishads clearly. Many Hindu leaders knew him/admired him, yet didn't know enough....!!

Soon, you will know the truths that Vedic authors knew and was forgotten by our immediate ancestors as heroes were converted to new Deities and Gods.

Please be open minded and don't be a 'koopa mandukam' (Sanskrit word for the frog in the well) or someone who is afraid and block the truth.

The man who answered the prayer of the Sages was Jesus Christ. Life, death and resurrection of Jesus was predicted in the sacred books of ancient Hinduism and Judaism. Over 100 predictions about Jesus was predicted in the 'Old testament' which is followed by Jews and Muslims.

Let us see what is written in the Hindu Holy scriptures and compare it with the Holy Bible...

Jesus is the First born

“Hiranyagarbha: samavarthaagre
Bhuuthasya jaatha: pathireka aaseeth
Sadaadhaara Prudhwivim dyaamuthemam
Kasmai devaaya havisha vidhemam." (RigVeda X:121:1)

In the beginning, God and his supreme spirit alone existed.
From the supreme Spirit (Paramatma) proceeded Hiranya Garbha (alias Prajapathy),
the first born of the God in the form of light.
Upon birth, He became one and only God to the universe
comprising the Skies, Stars, Earth and the Seas.
He rules the endless firmament and the whole of the earth.

As soon as born, he became the saviour of all the worlds. (RigVeda X:121:1)

“Thasmaad virraada jaayatha
viraajo adhi purusha:
Sajaatho athyarichyatha
Paschaad bhoomim adho pura:” (Rigveda X:90:5)

From that male, the universe came into being. From that body of the universe came the omnipresent Person. That Person thus became manifest, adopted various forms and character and created the earth and other planets along with the creatures to live in them. (Rigveda X:90:5)

"Before the world was made, the word of God(Jesus) existed. He was same as the God. From the beginning the word was with God.Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. The word was the source of life, and this life brought light to mankind." (Bible- John 1:1-5)

"He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities--all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Bible- Col 1:15-17)

“Purusha evedam sarvam
Yadbhutham yacha bhavyam Uthaamruthathwasya esaana
Ya daannenathirohathi” (Rigveda X:90:2)

This man, the first born of the God is all that was, all that is and all that has to be. And he comes to this world to give recompense to everybody as per his deeds. (Rigveda X:90:2)

"Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense, to repay every one for what he has done." (Rev 22:12 -Bible)

Jesus was Crucified

The base of christian belief is that "Jesus had to die like a sacrificial lamb for the sins of the world and to re-unite God and mankind". See that it is clearly mentioned in the first two holy books of the Indo-Aryans.

“Tham yajnam barhishi proukshan Purusham jaathamagratha
Thena deva ayajantha Sadhya rushayaschaye.” (‘Purushasookta’ Rigveda X:90:7)

This man, the first born of the God, was tied to a wooden sacrificial post and the gods and the Kings along with the seers performed the sacrifice. (‘Purushasookta’ Rigveda X:90:7)

“Thamevam Vidwanamruthaiha bhavathy
Nanya pandha ayanaya vidyathe.” (Yajurveda XXXI:18, Rigveda X:90:16)

This (sacrifice) is the only way for redemption and liberation of mankind. Those meditate and attain this man, believe in heart and chant with the lips, get liberated in this world itself and there is no other way for salvation too. (Yajurveda XXXI:18, Rigveda X:90:16)

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Rom 10:9 - Bible)

Rig Veda mandalams II and X presents the figure of Prajapathy. The sages of the Ancient Hinduism had predicted about Jesus very clearly. Jesus Christ is the Prajapathy(Son of God) mentioned in the 10th book of Rigveda and many other Upanishads.

An examination of the Vedas reveals that sacrifice is spoken of as the only means of salvation.

“Prathamani Dharmani” - “Sacrifices are the foremost of our first duties.”

“Yagnovai Bhuvanasya Nabhih”- “Sacrifice is the mainstay of the world”.

“Yagne Sarvam Pratishthitam” – “It is sacrifice that bestows all things”.

“Yagnovai Sutarmanowh”- “Sacrifice is the bark (boat) that enables one to live well”.

“Yagnena Va Deva Divangatah” – “Only by means of sacrifice, the gods attained heaven”

“Rutasyanah Pathanaya Ati Viswani Durita”- “Deliverance through the path of sacrifice”

The above doctrines proclaimed by the Vedas emphasize that sacrifices should be the foremost of all penances that must be performed for the atonement of sins.

Tandya Maha Brahmanam says, Sru: “Yagnota avati tasyachhaya kriyate” – “It is a sacrifice that saves. What is being performed, is the shadow of sacrifice”.

The above sayings clearly reveal that the sacrifices performed do not themselves confer salvation but they are the type and the shadow of a great salvation-giving sacrifice.

Aitareya Brahmanam says, Sru: “Yaja-manah pashuh yajamanameva suvargam lokam gamayati” – “He who offers the sacrificial animal; therefore, he who performs sacrifices goes to heaven”

In the Satapadha Brahmanam, we read, “Prajapatir yagnah” – “God Himself is the sacrifice”.

In Tandya Maha Brahmanam of Sama Veda, we read, Sru: “Prajapatir devebhyam atmanam yagnam krutva prayachhat” – “God would offer Himself as a sacrifice and obtain atonement for sins”

Satapadha Brahmanam says, “Tasya prajapatirardhameva martyamasidardhamrutam” – God became half mortal and half immortal”. This means that He united in Himself the human and the divine.

In the Purusha Sukta, we read that the God Brahma is sacrificed. What is evident from the above teachings is that the true and great redeeming sacrifice would be the one performed by the Sovereign Lord of this world, who putting on both mortality and immortality and becoming incarnate as God-man, would Himself be the sacrificial animal and offer Himself as a sacrifice to redeem mankind from their sins.

In this manner, the importance of sacrifice is taught.

This is what the Rig Veda says about the sacrificial animal:

I. It must be a goat without blemish.

II. The “balusu” bush must be placed round its head.

III. It must be bound to a sacrificial post.

IV. Nails must be driven into its four legs till they bleed.

V. The cloth covering the goat should be divided among the four priests.

VI. None of its bones must be broken.

VII. The goat should be given a drink of Soma juice.

VIII. After it has been slain, it must be restored to life again.

IX. Its flesh should be eaten.

Now these details lead us to conclude that the sacrificial death of the incarnate God-head must have answered this description in full.

Thus, it is said that God Himself must become man, and then become a sacrifice to save sinners. But we do not read any such thing written about the incarnations of our country nor in the Sastras. There is no God-incarnate man, who died a sacrificial death to save sinners.

But there is a country called Palestine in the west of Asia, on the Mediterranean coast, in the center of the great land mass of the world. In this country was born of a holy virgin’s womb, the incarnate God, in Whom were fulfilled all the details of the description given about the God-man.

He was absolutely without blemish. He lived a perfectly holy life. He was both mortal and immortal. That is to say, He was both human and divine. From the beginning, He foretold His sacrificial death to save the mankind and then of His living again as death’s conqueror. He voluntarily surrendered Himself into the hands of wicked men, who loved sin, hated His teachings and wanted to kill Him.

If we examine the way in which he was killed, we find that like the sacrifice of God Brahma as described in Purusha Sukta, everything said about the sacrificial animal in the Rig Veda, was clearly fulfilled in this incarnation in the following manner:

I. He was the sinless God-man (I Pet.2:22)

II. A crown of thorns (balusu) was placed on His head (Mark 15:17)

III. He was crucified on the cross (sacrificial post) (Mark 15:24-25)

IV. He was nailed hands and feet to the cross (John 19:18)

V. Those who nailed Him to the cross divided His garments among themselves (Matt.27:35)

VI. Not one of His bones was broken (John 19:36)

VII. He was given vinegar (Soma juice) to drink (Matt.27:34)

VIII. He rose again as death’s conqueror (Matt.28:5-6)

IX. Before His death, He told His disciples that they should eat His flesh and drink His blood which were sacrificed for the redemption of the world, and that they should, while often remembering His death, symbolically partake of bread and wine; and for this purpose, He instituted a Sacrament. This sacrament continues to be observed to this day (Matt.26:26-29)

Since in the incarnation that took place in Palestine fulfilled the atoning sacrifice for the salvation of sinners, it is evident that this was the true Incarnation of God Whom sinners should take hold of for their salvation. This incarnation is the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Name “JESUS” means the One Who saves His people from sins (Matt.1:21).

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name (except Jesus Christ) under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12)

What if the real God is the God of Christianity....? Isn't it worth trying to see it for yourself.

Bhavishya Purana

Do you know that Bhavishya Purana is a verbatim copy of christian "OLD TESTAMENT Bible". Only the names are Indianized. Here are some eye-opening points.

Adam & Hovah – Garden of Eden – Tree of Good and Evil

In the eastern side of Pradan (Pradan means Main, Important, Capital of the country) city where there is a big God-given forest (Eden), which is 16 square yojanas in size. The man named Adama (Adam) was staying there under a Papa-Vriksha or a sinful tree (Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil) and was eager to see his wife Havyavati. (Hovah)

The Kali purusha quickly came there assuming the form of a serpent. He cheated them and they disobeyed Lord Vishnu (Yahweh is here identified with Vishnu). The husband ate the forbidden fruit of the sinful tree. They lived by eating air with the leaves called udumbara. After they had sons and all of them became mlecchas (sinners).

Even the facts about Adam and his generations are same in both books.

Adama's duration of life was nine hundred and thirty years.

Bible - Genesis 5:5, "And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died."

Adam offered oblations with fruits and went to heaven with his wife. His son was named Sveta-nama ( Seth- nama = name), and he lived nine-hundred and twelve years.

Genesis 5:8, "and all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died."

Sveta-nama's son was Anuta (Enosh), who ruled one-hundred years less than his father.

Genesis 5:10, "and Enosh lived after he begat Kenan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters"

His son Kinasa (Kenan) ruled as much as his grandfather. His son Malahalla (Mahalalel) ruled eight-hundred ninety five years. His son Virada (Jared) ruled 960 years.

Genesis 5:14, 17, 20 -- "And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died. And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died. And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died"

His son Hamuka (Enoch) was devoted to Lord Vishnu, and offering oblations of fruits he achieved salvation. He ruled 365 years and went to heaven with the same body being engaged in mleccha-dharma.

Genesis 5:23, 24 -- "and all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: and Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him."

The ancestors of the modern Jews and the Indo-Aryans came from same place(central Asia or Mesapetomia) and probably worshipped the same God. That is why we see so many predictions in Rig and Yajur veda about Jesus which is also there in the old testament Bible..

We know that by the time Adharva veda comes, there is lot of deviation. By the time Indo-Aryans settled in the present places, they lost the original worships, new gods came into being...First set of gods were Rudra and Indra etc... later came other gods and deities.

India had thousands of local faith and Gods. 'Hindu' means people who lived east of the river 'indus'. Today's Hinduism was formed when this Aryan religion started subsuming the Dravidian religion and the other thousand of the local religions on the way from central Asia to Srilanka. As local Gods were absorbed into the main stream, the original God Concept was lost, even the culture changed.

After the Aryans settled in 'Bharath varsha' the society was torn into 4 categories by the influential.

* Brahmins - created from the Head of Brahma(God). [clan of priests, supposed to learn, teach etc.].

* Kshatriyas- from the hand of God. [Warrior clans)
* Vaisyas - from the legs of Brahma(God). [agriculture/merchants ]
* Sudras- from the feet and the dust on the foot of God [ servant class].
* There was also significant 'untouchable' class who are outside the above class system. They still exist.

Until recently, if you were born in a caste, you are entitled to work only in that area. If Hindus are moving away from this practice today, it means this system was wrong and unfair. Backward communities were downtrodden for thousands of generations with no one to rescue them.

In 1935, Dalit Dr. Ambedkar declared: “I was born a Hindu; I had no choice. But I will not die a Hindu because I do have a choice.” As Chairman of India’s Constituent Assembly, he codified freedom of religion, legal equality and abolished caste discrimination in India’s 1949 Constitution.

Dr. Ambedkar found that even constitutional rights were insufficient to ensure freedom and dignity. On Oct.14, 1954 he led 300,000 Dalits to leave Hinduism and to become Buddhists.

As all are equal in front of God. Jesus says he comes to help the needy and bonded. He is especially interested in the unfortunate. There are many stories in the Bible (such as lost lamb, lost coin) where God goes after the unfortunate. He also told his disciples that "those who want to be a leader must serve others".

Vivekananda Speaks on Christ
Excerpts from Vivekananda: An Ancient Silence-Heart And A Modern Dynamism-Life by Sri Chinmoy.

“These great children of Light, who manifest the light themselves, they, being worshipped, become as it were, one with us and we have become one with them.”

It is easier to have faith in the Personal God than in the impersonal. God dons the earthly cloak. He bodies forth the creation of His own time, and casts a far-flung glance into the yet unborn to bring it into existence. He reveals Himself to each individual according to his power of receptivity.

To the beginner, Christ would immediately speak of the Personal God: “Pray to your Father in Heaven.” To the one a little more advanced, he would say, “I am the vine, ye are the branches.” But to the one who was fully advanced and his dear disciple, he would proclaim: “I and my Father are One.”

The Nazarene was a product of the East, although the people of the West have managed to forget this bare truth. “An Oriental of Orientals,” it is quite natural that in the Bible we come across many images, symbols, natural scenes and simple ways of living common to the oriental countries. But what is more important, the oriental view is that this material life falls short of true satisfaction. So when Christ says, “Not this life, but something higher,” Vivekananda cannot help remarking, “Like a true son of the Orient, he is practical in that.”

Vivekananda meant that our earthly achievements, however grandiose, are in no way enough to quench the ever-pinching thirst of human souls to attain to higher life.

Vivekananda once said: If you ask me, “Is there a God?” and I say “Yes,” you immediately ask my grounds for saying so, and poor me has to exercise all his powers to provide you with some reason. If you had come to Christ and said “Is there any God?” he would have said, “Yes,” and if you had asked, “Is there any proof?” he would have replied, “Behold the Lord.!”
